I recently photographed the Roth Family at their home in Carlsbad, CA for La Costa Living Magazine. The minute I entered their home, I felt a warmth and sense of ease being around this family.

Jonathan and Lori’s three kids — Spencer, Harrison and Joelle — were all home for the summer, so it was a perfect time to capture the family. Both boys are away at colleges in Ohio. Spencer attends Ohio University and Harrison is at the Miami University of Ohio. It just so happens that Lori was raised in Ohio, so I’m sure there is some midwest pride in that house!

This tribe is very active… Spencer plays ice hockey, Harrison plays Ultimate Frisbee and Joelle dances and plays lacrosse and field hockey. They also love golf, tennis, skiing, hiking and they enjoy lots of family time at their house.

And their house is set up perfectly for entertaining and relaxing. As you can see in the photos, their yard has a beautiful pool and an outdoor fire pit. They are professional marshmallow roasters. Seriously, professionals — they have special marshmallow tongs and can produce perfectly toasted and crispy marshmallows. Spencer doesn’t eat them so I got to have the one he made. (yaay, it’s the little things that make me happy!)

I really got the sense that this family loves being together and home is where their hearts are.
